Region Syddanmark (RSD) - Denmark
The Region of South Denmark is the result of the merger of 3½ existing counties into a single organisation and it is the biggest region in the whole of Denmark with 1,2 millions inhabitants. The responsibility for running the health service is decentralized and lies mostly within the regional authorities. Area: 12.191,2 km2. The hospitals of the Region are located in 19 different towns. When Region of South Denmark enters international projects, it represents all the public health care institutions (hospitals) in the region (25.000 employees). The International Office of Region Syddanmark (RSD) was known until the end of 2006 as the Danish Centre for Health Telematics, County of Funen. The International Office is based in Odense and conducts several projects and activities under a single management. All these have as their focal point the establishment of a market plus the implementation of electronic communication in health services. MedCom and International Projects are the main activities co-ordinated by the Office. The European projects all revolve around one or several of the following elements: Telemedicine and eHealth services, infrastructure for telemedicine, and standardisation. The International office is leading partner in the Baltic eHealth project part-financed by INTERREG III B.
